We stand with CUPE 2361 members in their fight for respect

CUPE 2361 represents 330 caretakers, trades, arena workers, and landscape technicians. We have a lot in common with you. We work hard to support our families, and are struggling to survive as living costs skyrocket. Hard working union members like us help keep our province moving every single day enabling our local economies and supporting people and services. Yet our lives are getting harder while those at the top, such as Western University administrators who make nearly $500,000 dollars a year, are not held accountable for keeping wages low and cutting services. We are fighting back because we all deserve better.

IMPORTANT: This form is to only be used for union and local leaders who have the authority to sign on to the following letter.

Dear Mayor Josh Morgan,

CUPE 2361 has been on strike since August 30 for fair wages and quality services at Western University. The understaffing crisis at Western has led to reduced service quality for students and staff, impacting learning and research.

Most CUPE 2361 members make about $50,000 a year. This is why nearly two-thirds of them work a second job to make ends meet. They could not survive on the university’s last wage offer. Decision-makers at Western University seem determined to run the university like a corporation: reduce service quality for students even as enrollment steadily climbs up, and squeeze workers by keeping wages and staffing level low.

This is not acceptable.

Working people in London are struggling to keep up with the skyrocketing costs of living. Housing prices in London have gone up by 50% over the last five years. Good jobs are disappearing as workers’ purchasing power has been pushed down. Western University is contributing to the growing inequality in London.

CUPE 2361’s strike is not just about negotiating fair wages and quality services with Western University, but is also part of a broader movement for a decent standard of living for working people, and actual accountability for decision-makers. We stand with them every step of their way.

We are calling on you to ask Alan Shepard and Lynn Logan to negotiate a fair settlement immediately.

Sincerely,
List of Labour Union/Association Presidents
