The Water Watchers began as a grassroots organization in 2007 to oppose Nestlé’s local water-bottling operations in Wellington County, Ontario. Today, the organization has become a unique resource for grassroots leaders on the frontlines of water protection.
Water Watchers believe that bottled and packaged water is central to the global process of water commodification and a key impediment to realizing the human right to water, not to mention a major environmental threat.
The Council of Canadians, along with the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) launched The Blue Communities Project in 2009 to highlight the links between water commodification, water privatization, and the human right to water.
On July 30th, join the Water Watchers as they receive their Blue Community certificate and hear from Maude Barlow about her inspiration for the concept of Blue Communities and why it is increasingly important now in the global water landscape.
We hope to see you there,
