Thank you for sending a message to Western University in support of the members of CUPE Local 2361 – the caretaking, landscape services and trades workers at Western University in London who are proud to create a healthy, safe and accessible campus for students, faculty, researchers and staff.

The workers met with the university and a government-appointed conciliation officer last week. Despite a staffing crisis caused by low wages and high workloads, the employer made no significant changes that would help to attract and retain staff.

Nearly two-thirds of members already work other jobs to make ends meet, and one-third are actively seeking employment elsewhere – like at nearby Fanshawe College, which pays the same positions $5-7/hour more. Sadly, the university has decided that keeping up with the cost of groceries, of housing, of wages at similar schools, is not a priority.
