International Day of Older Persons

The following is from Congress of Union Retirees Canada (CURC) London:

Hello friends and fellow Retirees.

I want to remind you that October 1st is National Senior’s Day/International Day of Older Persons.

Some of us are gathering at London City Hall at Noon, by their flagpole, where we have the United Nations (UN) flag flying in order to mark and celebrate this day.  It would be wonderful to see you there, if you can make it.

We want to celebrate all that seniors have to offer to help our community be vibrant, and welcoming.

We need to tell our City’s politicians and other politicians how they can help make it better for us, and others, so that we can live a happy, healthy and fulfilling life.  There are those that need more help than others, but we can be a voice for those who cannot help themselves. We can volunteer time, energy and funds, if possible, to help out many organizations working hard to help those in need (such as the Food Bank, Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Cancer drivers).

There are organizations that we can join to help as well to help those in need, as mentioned above, or groups that advocate for them, such as we do at CURC, SCAN, various church and health care facilities, Senior’s Centers, Optimists, Housing and Healthy ageing groups, Age Friendly London, and there is many more. Just google it. There is a lot in London Seniors can do to feel happy and healthy.  My favourite is Pickle Ball, LOL.

We need to tell our politicians what we need and want to see our world survive and thrive.

We need all to call or just speak to another senior that day, and see how they are.

Join usWednesdayat Noon, behind City by the flagpole, to hear more.

In solidarity,
Sue Scott-Mallett, President of London Regional Area Council CURC
