OFL: Celebrating African Liberation & Black History Month

The following is from the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL).

The Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) Workers of Colour committee and the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists (CBTU) are celebrating African Liberation and Black History Month by launching our fifth annual Legacies of Labour and Community Activism poster series.

The Legacies series honours the historical achievements of African Canadians and features the ongoing contributions of activists in the Black community.

Progressive politicians, like MPP Dr. Jill Andrew, are recognized for their unflagging commitment to advocating for the rights of workers, protecting our public services, and ending this cost-of-living crisis, which has a disproportionate impact on Black, racialized, and other equity-deserving communities.

The struggle to make ends meet is hurting people across this province. Legislation like Bill 124 keeps wages low while costs are skyrocketing. Bill 28 was a clear attack on the ability to negotiate, and aimed to strip all workers of their rights to bargain for a fair contract or to strike. Bill 23 is a threat to our protected lands and does nothing to fix the terrible affordable housing shortage in this province.
