City of London Budget Information

December 18, 2023

The following was provided to us by the London Chapter of Council of Canadians:

Last Tuesday December 12, London city staff released the City of London’s 2024-2027 multi-year draft budget and gave a presentation.  In the Strategic Priorities and Policy Committee meeting (which is all of City Council) the budget approval process was laid out.  In January, Londoners will have the opportunity to discuss and provide feedback about the draft budget.  At the end of January the Mayor will table his own budget with a list of what he added to or removed from the staff’s budget.  In February City Council will make amendments to the mayor’s budget.  The mayor can veto any amendment, and Council can override his veto with a two-thirds majority – i.e. ten councillors out of 15 including the mayor.  Meetings are scheduled through February for these budget deliberations, with March 5, 2024 the target for final approval by City Council.

CoC London Chapter has not yet had a chance to go through the draft budget (it’s 857 pages) but we hope to have some comments and suggestions for you by the end of December. We may also hold a public event on the city budget in January.
