London, ON – June 14, 2025 – On the same day the U.S. Army hosts a controversial military parade in Washington, D.C., also marking the U.S. President’s birthday, more than 1,500 locations across the United States are uniting for the “No Kings” movement. In solidarity, citizens in London, Ontario will gather at the Northwest Gates of Victoria Park at noon for the No Tyrants Rally, a peaceful, productive, and powerful stand alongside three other Canadian rallies speaking out against autocracy, erosion of democracy, and the global rise of authoritarian rhetoric.

Organized by community leader and past Democrats Abroad London & Area Chair Gena Brumitt, the rally calls attention to growing threats to human rights both in Canada and internationally — from the repression of peaceful environmental activism in Quebec to the impacts of shifting trade policies that hurt Canadian workers and businesses.

“The fight against tyranny is not limited to any one country or leader,” says Brumitt. “Canada faces its own challenges — from undemocratic moves like Ontario’s confrontational Bill 5 that cut municipal representation, to ongoing colonial injustices suffered by Indigenous peoples. In California, the Trump administration is provoking an emergency that will justify the exercise of ever-greater authoritarian powers. Our voices matter and on June 14, we will say loudly and clearly: No Tyrants.”

The rally will feature speakers and activists emphasizing:

  • The global human rights crisis and the rise of autocratic governments.
  • The local impact of policies that undermine democracy and community autonomy.
  • The economic harm caused by erratic tariff policies and cross-border tensions.
  • Solidarity with Indigenous communities and environmental defenders facing harassment and criminalization.

Clark Bryan, Musician, Entrepreneur, Educator, and Founder of The Aeolian Performing Arts Centre and Aeolian Education Campus, will be one of the speakers. He said, “What is happening in the U.S. with Trump and the Republicans has horrific global implications and cannot be looked at as isolated to that country. We are standing at a crossroads as a species on this planet. We have choices: death and destruction, or a different pathway to peace and prosperity. Let’s unite as Canadians and stand with our American friends against Trump’s oppression and tyranny! We must stand up and fight as we already have the seeds sown in our country for Trump-like behaviours and politics.”

Dr. Amanda Moehring, a genetics researcher and Western University professor who will speak at the rally, said, “The attacks on science and education in the U.S. are disturbing. They will have damaging repercussions for years, potentially decades to come. As Canadians, we have to ensure that the same doesn’t happen here, and to rise to the challenge of filling the gap where American science used to be.”

Join us and bring your best signs on Saturday, June 14, to demand accountability, transparency, and respect for democratic values and human dignity.
