London and District Labour Council Recognizes the Importance of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation across Canada
September 29, 2025
The London and District Labour Council recognizes the importance of this Day for labour and the broader community, as we seek to understand the truth of our history and we re-commit to reconciliation to ensure that the tragic history and ongoing legacy of residential schools is never forgotten. Authentic reconciliation requires continuous reflection, action, and consideration throughout the year. However, on the National Day for Truth Reconciliation, it is important that we make time to commemorate the lost children and the Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities.
It is crucial to reflect on what all of us can do to identify and to eliminate structural and overt racism, as well as other forms of discrimination in our workplaces and communities. This Day is a time to acknowledge the truth of our collective history, and the inequities faced by Indigenous peoples across the country. We must, as a collective labour movement, resolve to work for a better, more equitable future, and to pursue the actions from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action, and also to seek justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.
We must come together now to challenge pieces of legislation, such as Ontario’s Bill 5 and the Federal Bill C-5, that do not respect Indigenous land and sovereignty. We must continue to assess government practices at all levels against the many critical calls for authentic Truth and Reconciliation.
There are a number of significant events taking place on September 30, and we hope to have many of you participate in those events to show the solidarity of the London and District Labour Council and our community allies.
In solidarity,
Patti Dalton
President, London and District Labour Council
