World Water Day

March 22, 2026

The following is from the Council of Canadians:

On March 22nd, we mark World Water Day, a moment to reflect on how far we’ve come, and how far we still must go to ensure the human right to water for everyone.

In 2010, the Council of Canadians played a key role in securing the United Nations’ recognition of access to water as a human right. Since then, we have led national campaigns, challenged harmful water policies, stood with Indigenous communities, and mobilized people across the country to ensure that this right is respected, in Canada and around the world. We have built a powerful, people-driven movement, supporting communities, advancing water justice, influencing public policy, and holding governments accountable for their promises on clean water.
